Intr-o discutie recenta cu prietenul meu mult mai intelept, mi s-a atras atentia din nou asupra importantei vitale pe care o are controlul cuvintelor in manipularea indivizilor. Si mi-am adus aminte de acest lucru cand am vazut povestile difuzate de media privind luarile de ostatici din Algeria. Islamismul si Al-Queda sunt cuvintele cheie pentru perceptia negativa. Atacatorii provin din gasca fundamentalismului oriental si au aceleasi trasaturi talibane ultracunoscute. Potrivit informatiilor din presa, teroristii au cerut incetarea atacului coordonat de Franta impotriva rebelilor islamisti din Mali. Nimic prea tare pana aici. Stim cu totii, vrand-nevrand, de acest pericol, desi in general exista mult, mult mai multe victime colaterale ca urmare a interventiilor externe, decat ca o consecinta a raidurilor islamiste. Dar, daca ne uitam la istoria recenta a conflictelor din zona araba, descoperim altceva. De pilda, Franta a fost prima tara din Vest care a recunoscut legitimitatea disidentilor sirieni, Al Nusra Front, si a sustinute inarmarea lor, desi gruparea reprezinta un aliat oficial al Al-Queda. In Libia, rebelii au provenit intr-o proportie considerabila din randurile unei alte grupari islamiste apropiata de Al-Queda. Nu mai amintim acum de povestea de iubire clasica dintre SUA si “luptatorii libertatii” din Afganistan, ilustrata cinematografic in Rambo 3, deveniti, in decurs de mai putin de 20 de ani, “barbari orientali”. Acestea sunt doar doua exemple despre cum se pot folosi cuvintele “terorism”, “islamism”, “fundamentalism” pentru justificarea unor scopuri politice mai putin transparente. Insa o strategie similara este folosita in multe alte cazuri pentru a discredita persoane cu filozofii opuse curentelor la moda. De pilda, conceptul de “teoria conspiratiei” reprezinta o eticheta la indemana pentru a arunca pe oricine in afara respectabilitatii discursului public. De asemenea, toata miscarea “corectitudinii politice” poate fi inteleasa ca un efort sistematic de a controla sensul cuvintelor si, in consecinta, al dezbaterii publice. Aceasta cred ca este, de altfel, miza sa principala. Numarul conceptelor distorsionate poate fi multiplicat aproape la nesfarsit cat timp exista o cultura universitara etatizata, iar zeitgeitul relativist macina constant standardele si criteriile de rationalitate. Marea gaselnita nu consta neaparat in amenintarea atributelor negative. De foarte multe ori, anumite practici, devenite indoielnice, sunt recuperate tot cu ajutorul limbajului. Eugenia, de exemplu, reprezenta o ramura de cercetare stiintifica respectabila pentru scientismul modern, pana la episodul nazist. Apoi a cazut in dizgratie, insa a fost recuperata cu ajutorul mai multor cuvinte, din nefericire, inca imaculate: “controlul populatiei”, “bioetica”, etc. (Institutul Britanic de Eugenie si-a schimbat in 1989 numele in Institutul Galton). Ar trebui sa fie destul de limpede impactul unei asemenea tehnici de control social, desi nu are o legatura exclusiva cu imperialismul, cu evolutionismul social sau cu decadenta culturala. Relevanta sa fundamentala o descoperim doar in relatia de opozitie cu libertatea personala. |
